Description
STATEMENT OF WORK The purpose and scope of this research contract is to purchase scientific research equipment (Brand Name or Equal) TE-10 smoking machine and rodent exposure chamber (Teague): Despite smoking cessation efforts, cigarette smoking-induced chronic lung diseases remain the 4th leading cause of death world-wide. Thus, it is critically important to understand the biologic basis of smoke-induced lung disease in order to develop effective treatments. Studies of the effects of mainstream and environmental tobacco smoke have used artificial systems for generating cigarette smoke for research purposes for many years. The Teague rodent exposure chamber not only provides mainstream and environmental tobacco smoke exposure in small animal model, but also maintains a target level of smoke concentration for the duration of the experiment. Using the Teague rodent exposure chamber, we have previously shown that cigarette smoke exposure increases susceptibility to acute lung injury and lung edema (Lu et al, Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2011 Dec; 30 (6):L847-57), which has not been well recognized previously. We have also shown that cigarette smoke exposure increases lung adenosine levels, which may contribute to smoking-induced lung injury (Lu et al, Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2013 Jan 11. [Epub ahead of print]). In future studies, four investigators in Vascular Research Lab (VRL) at Providence VA Medical Center will continue to perform cigarette smoke research. They will test if chemical compounds which target adenosine signaling would be able to prevent or treat cigarette smoke-associated both acute and chronic lung diseases. They will also test if targeting protein kinase C and other signaling molecules will be able to prevent and treat cigarette smoke-induced COPD and heart diseases. The scientific equipment will be located in Research Building 9. 1.The contractor shall work with the research team to carry out the services/requirements described below. 2.Requirements: The contractor shall provide the following scientific equipment request: 1 ea TE-10TE-10 Smoking machine 40 pkLtr-pkNichrome wire lighters 2 eaPP-1spare pumps 40 eawg wheel gaskets 1 eav-65 flow meter for PP calibtation 1 eaandroid tablet for BT controller 1 SHU Hood control unit, Collection & dilution chamber, Blower unit, compressor, Orifice meters and controls 6 eaAEC-4rc Rat Exposure chambers & meters 1 eaSU-tsp filter sampling unit with filter holder 1 eaG1-RF Dry gas meter 0-26 LPM 6 eatsp-f PaulFlex filter 100 pack 1 eaFH In-line filter holder 25 mm 1 eaTE-cal Calibration of system >20 test points for TSP, CO, #conc, part size and nicotine 1 chShipping estimate 1 ch Installation and training 3.Delivery Items in support of delineated requirements will be delivered over the time period from the effective date of contract, through the date of the last line item. 4.The contractor shall submit invoices in a timely manner to the VA upon delivery of requirements. 5.Performance under this contract is subject to all VA and VHA regulations and policy without limitation as to those now in effect or as may be established.
