- SOLE SOURCE NOTICE NASA/KSC has a requirement for 1) Cylinder Cell Electrode Slitting Machine- MSK-T-Slitting, Qty: 1 EA, 2) Desk-Top Ultrasonic Metal Welder, 40KHz, 110VAC, 50/60Hz - MSK-800, Qty: 1 EA, 3) Semi-Automatic Winding Machine for Electrodes of Cylinder Cell,110VAC, 50/60Hz- MSK-112A-Cylinder, Qty: 1 EA, 4) Precise Pneumatic Point Welding Machine for Professional Li-on Battery Research, 208-240 V, Single Phase 50/60Hz- MSK-330A, Qty: 1 EA, 5) Desk-top Semi-Auto Grooving Machine for AA Cylinder Cell, 110VAC, 50/60Hz -MSK-500-AA0, Qty: 1 EA and 6) Desk-top Hydraulic Sealing Machine for AA Cylinder Cell MSK-510-AA, Qty: 1 EA. NASA/KSC intends to purchase the items from MTI Corporation of Richmond, CA. MTI Corporation is the sole manufacturer of required equipment needed for the KSC Center Innovation Fund (CIF) project entitled "Graphene-Based Energy Storage Devices for Space Applications," working in conjunction with University of California, Los An geles (UCLA). Compatibility with current equipment used by UCLA is critical. In order to fully collaborate and ensure reliable replication of results, the items must be identical to those used by UCLA in their program. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 3:30 p.m. local time on August 21, 2013. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which sh all be considered by the agency.
