Description
The Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers has an upcoming project to upgrade the Lower Granite Juvenile Fish Facility (JFF) and its associated systems and are looking for information from experienced contractors. less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The upgraded system will provide additional water through enlarged 14 inch orifices. To accommodate the added flow, concrete mining is required to enlarge the existing JFF collection channel and the existing Transportation channel. A new section of Transportation channel will be mined through the dam and exit the downstream face of the dam. Additionally, there will be a new Transportation channel and associated systems from the dam to the JFF. less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The existing channel is to be widened from 6 feet to 9.5 feet (3.5 feet removal) with a height of about 10 feet and length of 540 feet, in the powerhouse section of the dam (see Volume 2 sheets G-101, SD101, SD102, SD103, SD301, SD302, SB301, SB302, SB303) less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The new transportation channel thru the erection bay portion of the dam is 6 feet wide and 9.5 feet tall. It transitions from 9.5 ft by about 10 feet to 6ft by 9.5 ft. (see Volume 2 sheets G-101 and SD104) less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The total estimated excavation is just under 1,400 CY based on the following breakdown by unit: less than br / greater than Central Non Overflow = 7.9 CY less than br / greater than Unit 6 = 115.4 CY less than br / greater than Unit 5 = 118.1 CY less than br / greater than Unit 4 = 133.7 CY less than br / greater than Unit 3 = 158.0 CY less than br / greater than Unit 2 = 177.9 CY less than br / greater than Unit 1 = 198.1 CY less than br / greater than Erection Bay / South Non Overflow = 489.1 less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The assumed access is via the Drainage Gallery Shaft to the north and the Gate Storage Pit to the south. The limits of these access areas are shown on Volume 2 sheets SD101, SD104, and SD302. less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The length of the entire channel is about 700 feet. less than br / greater than less than br / greater than Our drawings show that the concrete is a 3,000 psi concrete mix. The various reinforcing is as shown in the GDP-1-4-2/78 series drawings. less than br / greater than less than br / greater than Construction constraints: less than br / greater than 1. Mining operation will occur at night since there is a 6AM to 2PM restriction due to close proximity to adult fish ladder to allow for undisturbed adult fish passage, and to minimize disturbance to dam operating personnel. less than br / greater than 2. Concrete removal could occur after 6 AM but would be subject to intermittent interruption to provide daytime road access across the dam every hour. Removal would be through hatches on the deck of the dam. less than br / greater than 3. Due to work window constraints, the work in the collection channel may only be able to be done in a two month window when the channel can be dewatered. Work in the channel will then be suspended for 10 months till the next work window. We may be able to expand this work window based on the feedback from this notice. less than br / greater than 4. There will be a requirement to keep slurry water separate from river water that will leak into the collection channel (or all water in the channel will have to be treated as slurry water and disposed of appropriately). less than br / greater than less than br / greater than The questions we have are: less than br / greater than What would be the industry methods to accomplish this work? less than br / greater than What production rates could be expected? less than br / greater than What would be the biggest concerns with this work that the Government might be able to mitigate in advance issuing a solicitation? less than br / greater than less than br / greater than Please provide your response to Jani Long at jani.c.long@usace.army.mil no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013.
