- Description
- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) HITECH initiative will promote Health IT and specifically the EHR incentive program to health care providers who are eligible for the programs (hospitals, Medicare eligible professionals, Medicaid eligible professionals and Medicare Advantage organizations and their providers). A major goal of the outreach is to increase participation in the HITECH incentive program by all eligible providers through improved knowledge of the program and support grassroots efforts at the community level to promote and utilize HIT. Another goal is to forge a strong relationship and trust in CMS by providing continuing education that details how to implement EHR in practice and ultimately explains how health care providers can improve patient outcomes, and the quality, efficiency and transparency of health care. CMS intends to continually update and provide insight about how health care providers can implement the CMS incentives during subsequent years, so that CME/CE's are timely and relevant based on the feedback CMS is receiving from providers. CMS will help promote the adoption of EHR and other HIT by the provider community, states, state and local elected and appointed officials, and seek support by a full range of health care providers who would have a part to play in practice adoption. This approach will build awareness of the value of HIT in supporting a more efficient health system and relate how use of the CMS incentives can provide a system which will improve healthcare quality and efficiency in delivery. Activities conducted under this task order will also include other audiences as necessary (including professional societies, medical schools, teaching hospitals, and others) to educate and raise awareness of HIT, EHR incentive programs and other important topics pertaining to Recovery Act/HITECH Act.
