- Description
- This proposal is for a new firm fixed price contract to secure training access to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) website to train approximately 6,000 mental health providers on the new DSM-5. The APA is providing unlimited access to their website to conduct the training through their site; this will include Continuing Education (CE) units. In May 2013 the APA released the Fifth Edition of the DSM-5. Training is essential to all mental health providers to understand the changes about the new codes listed in the DSM-5 as providers will be required to begin to utilize DSM-5 criteria beginning in October 2013. The APA is currently the only organization that can provide their own expert-developed training which will help all our mental health providers obtain necessary skills in the application of new DSM-5 concepts and categories. APA will set up a separate DSM-5 course on the APA training site with special sign in at no cost to authorized VA providers and provide them a special authentication code to gain access to this course. The VA will distribute this code to all VA mental health providers requiring training. CE certificates will automatically print out at the end of the course. CE certificates for psychologists, social workers, counselors, addiction counselors, nurses, and other mental health professionals. APA has arranged this certification with Drexel University and APA will provide the certificates via email or online for both CME and CE credit. Only one responsible source is available to provide this training to VA mental health providers, as the APA is the leading authority as sole author of the DSM-5. The trainings provided are conducted by the actual authors of the DSM-5 with expertise in the diagnoses presented. It is essential that all VA mental health providers be trained on the changes to the diagnostic codes. Accordingly, APA is the only firm capable of providing the services by experts without the Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) experiencing unacceptable delays in fulfilling its requirements to complete conversion to DSM-5 use by October 2013.
