SOLICITATION NUMBER: HHS-NIH-NIDA-NIMH-SS3031350 TITLE: Illumina Sequencing Equipment Pre-96 Amp Reagents Kit INTRODUCTION This is a Sources Sought notice - This is NOT a solicitation, request for proposals (RFP), proposal abstracts, nor a request for quotations (RFQ). The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding the availability and capability of all qualified sources that includes; (1) other than small businesses (large businesses, education institutions, non-profits, etc.); (2) small businesses sources; (3) HubZone small businesses; (4) service-disabled small businesses; (5) veteran-owned small businesses; (6) 8(a) small businesses; (7) veteran-owned small businesses; (8) woman-owned small businesses; (9) small disadvantaged businesses; and (10) private contractors and consultants, who can perform the requirements of the size classification relative to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code as specified below. It is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Responses will not be considered as proposals or quotes. No award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by the respondents to this notice. The notice is strictly for research and information purposes only. The information requested will assist the Government in determining the appropriate acquisition method, including whether a small business social-economic set-aside, competitive or non-competitive method is possible, and to determine the availability of qualified companies technically capable of meeting the Government's requirement. ALL organizations with the capability and availability to perform the requirement under the applicable NAICS code are invited to submit a response to this notice. NORTH AMERICAN CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (NAICS) CODE The NAICS code applicable to this requirement is 325199 All other basic organic chemical manufacturing and the associated small business size standard is 500 employees. PROJECT DESCRIPTION This requirement is for the purchase of twelve (12) Pre-96 Amp Kits developed by Life Technologies TM the parent company of Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems, for use on Illumina sequencing systems for whole exome sequencing and genome-wide genotyping of individuals with Parkinson's disease. The National Institute of Aging (NIA) Laboratory of Neurogenetics ( LN) purchased Illumina genome sequencing systems in 2007 and 2009 to perform whole exome sequencing and human genotyping. The Illumina systems requires the use of reagents and consumables to ensure efficient operation and the desired outcomes of the operating systems. Reagents are chemicals and enzymes used to perform an assay or research sequencing methodology. Consumables are Arrays, Custom Arrays, Custom Oligo Pools, Standard Oligo Pools, Flow Cells, and accessories, Sample Preparation Kits, Cluster Kits, Sequencing Kits and Reagent Kits which are also used in the sequencing process. All reagents and consumables must be compatible with, and optimally perform in the Illumina manufactured systems. Reagents and consumables are designed and produced specifically for use with a manufacturer's sequencing system. Since the sequencing systems cannot operate without the reagents and consumables, it is imperative that a constant supply is available. LN uses standardized protocols with the Illumina equipment and there are additional protocols in process and at the development stage. More protocols can be added based on the customer's needs and the reagents and consumables available for the sequencer. Reagents and consumables are critical to keep the Illumina instrument systems operating and can change frequently for various chemical/technical reasons. The Pre-96 Amp Kit was developed by Invitrogen specifically for use on the Illumina sequencing systems.
