Description
Crosshead Forging Envelope Dimensions This Request for Information (RFI) is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal. This request for information shall not be construed as a commitment by the Government to award a contract. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) is surveying the marketplace for all interested parties, and is soliciting information and comments from industry and other interested parties. NAWCAD Lakehurst is requesting information pertaining to vendor sources, capabilities and the feasibility of providing a forged or hot isostatic processed castings of the Mk-7 Engine Crosshead. The Mk-7 Engine Crosshead is designated as a Critical Safety Item (CSI). A sample forging sketch is attached to this RFI and a complete build-to drawing will be supplied with the eventual solicitation. The Mk-7 Engine Crosshead will also require a significant amount of post forge machining in the form of conventional milling, deep pocket milling (>5"), drilling, tapping and possible welding. Likely material candidates include HY steels (HY-80, HY-100, etc). THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY. This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation. In accordance with FAR 15.201(e), responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Navy to form a binding contract. INFORMATION REQUESTED: Interested vendors are requested to provide the following: - Company description - Provide manufacturing capabilities, including relevant history manufacturing similar parts and utilizing similar processes. - Provide examples of prior projects working on or with designated with military Critical Safety Items (CSIs). - Provide examples and photographs of manufactured products of similar size and complexity. - Provide all applicable Federal standards, policies and regulations met. - Provide Quality Assurance systems in place, certifications, capabilities, and qualifications, especially in regards to welding. - Provide any additional information that will assist in understanding responses to this RFI. CONCLUSION In response to this RFI, all interested parties must submit written responses, preferably via electronic mail. The Navy does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this request or otherwise pay for the information solicited. While the Navy intends to use this information for future acquisition planning purposes, it will not release any information about your approach that might in any way compromise your competitive posture or proprietary information. The Navy will not use any information provided to level your company's approach relative to another competitor. All information received in response to this RFI that is marked PROPRIETARY will be handled accordingly. The Navy will not be liable for or suffer any consequential damages for any proprietary information not properly identified. Proprietary information will be safeguarded in accordance with the applicable Navy regulations. Responses to this RFI will not be returned. Respondents will not be notified of the result of the review. Submit your response in a Microsoft® Word or compatible format document in no more than twenty single-sided, single-spaced pages, 12-point, Times New Roman font, using a minimum of one-inch margins. Responses to this RFI are requested by 4:00 PM on 21 October 2013. Responses should cite RFI number N68335-13-RFI-0325 and be addressed to the attention of Ms. Melissa Bucci, Code 2.5.2.5.2MB. Failure to respond to this RFI does not preclude participation in any future associated RFP/RFQ that may be issued. Information provided in no way binds the Navy to solicit or award a contract. If a solicitation is released, it will be synopsized on the Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOps) website: www.fbo.gov. It is the potential vendor's responsibility to monitor this site for the release.
