Description
The equipment requirements and scope of work for a 6,600 Volt, reduced voltage (reactor) started, 5500 HP synchronous motor for the C6 High Pressure Facility in Building 38 at the NASA Glenn Research Center. The motor shall be brush type with slip rings, horizontal shaft, and designed for the speed-torque curves supplied in the appendix. NASA approved shop drawings shall be required before construction of the equipment will commence; a Notice to Proceed (NTP) shall be given after approval of shop drawings. Brush type excitation Designed for bi-directional operation with a manual change-over of power leads Designed and constructed based on the speed/torque curve described herein Designed and constructed with mechanical interfaces as per provided reference drawings Shipped with all components to the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Provided with factory support for installation and start-up Starting of the C6 motor shall be accomplished by starting as an induction motor via the rotors armitissour windings. The rotor shall be shorted by the field discharge resistor up to a speed of 1765RPM (98% synchronous speed) at which point motor excitation current will be applied to the rotor. Once the rotor pulls into step obtaining synchronous speed, the field discharge resistor shall be removed from the circuit and the motor shall be operating at a synchronous speed of 1800 RPM. The motor will be started under reduced voltage/current by utilizing a start reactor. The start reactor will limit voltage to the motor up to 50% of the rated bus voltage, with taps at 65% and 80%. When the motor starts, the start breaker is closed connecting the motor to the 6900V bus via the reactor, limiting inrush current. Once the motor accelerates and the inrush current drops, the run breaker will close, shorting out the reactor and allowing the motor to accelerate to full speed. This contract was awarded om 9/12/13.
