- Description
- Maintenance Dredging of the Wells Harbor Federal Navigation Project with work consisting of maintenance dredging of the 8-foot entrance channel, 6-foot inner harbor channel, 6-foot anchorage, and the approximately 8-foot-deep settling basin which is between the jetties. Also to be dredged are two mooring basins by the Town of Wells. The work consists of dredging about 130,000 cubic yards of sandy sediment from the Federal project and about 20,000 cubic yards of sandy sediment from the Town project. Half of the sand will be pumped about one mile north to Drakes Island Beach, and the other half will be pumped one mile south to Wells Beach. The sand will renourish the beaches. A hydraulic cutterhead pipeline will be used. A similar project was done in the fall and winter of 2000. Dredging and disposal window is from about September 15 to March 31. Dredging operations will be permitted 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
