- Description
- Project Details: The project will construct a drop structure in the Las Vegas Wash channel downstream of the Lake Las Vegas Dam. This structure is the fourth of a proposed eight drop structures to control channel erosion of the Las Vegas Wash Channel due to the lowering Lake Mead Water levels. The scope of this project is limited to building a new drop structure in the channel with an active stream. There is no mechanism to stop the channel flow so a diversion plan must be prepared and submitted showing experience with this type of very specific work elements. Sequenced construction in the channel will be necessary while maintaining channel flows at all times. The drop structure is comprised of two sheet pile walls with a concrete cap and Class 6 Riprap placed before in and at the toe of the structure. The access to the site is limited to a dirt access road that needs improvement and continuous maintenance. SIGNIFICANT QUANTITIES: o Schedule A - Major Items o Earthwork Geotextile (5,500 square yards) o Sheet Piles In Place (1,800 square yards) o Reinforcing Steel (6,500 lbs) o Structural Concrete (215 cubic yards) IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT: Contractor is responsible for water diversion design and shall submit a water diversion plan for approval by the COE and Lake Mead. The daily base flow is expected to be approximately 350 cfs and there should be protective measures to handle flows from storm events. An average storm event can produce a storm spike from 1,000 to 1,500 cfs while larger events can produce floods exceeding 10,000 cfs. It is anticipated that this project will be advertised in late October, 2013. Construction is anticipated to occur from December, 2013 to July, 2014. The contracting range for this project is between $2 million and $5 million.
