- The due date for submitting responses is extended to October 29, 2013 at 4:30 pm local Puerto Rico time. El Yunque National Forest is pleased to announce the availability of a concession prospectus to provide food and beverage service operation and maintenance at selected locations in the Forest. The main areas being offered are: Sierra Palm Recreation Area, El Portal Rain Forest Center (main visitor center), and Big Tree Trailhead (parking area). These recreation areas experience high visitor use year round. Nearby cities include Rio Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo and Canovanas. Optional future locations for concessions may be considered, subject to a complete NEPA analysis process at the following areas: La Coca Falls, Bano Grande pool/bathhouse, Palo Colorado Recreational Area, and the Historical Stone House. This prospectus is being issued to solicit applications for a concession special use permit authorizing use of National Forest System lands and the operation and maintenance of Government-owned recreation facilities. Applicants may apply to operate food and beverage for the main areas, as well as submit proposals for optional locations. Please refer to attached prospectus for additional details. The authorized officer for this opportunity is the Forest Supervisor for El Yunque National Forest, HC 01 Box 13490, Rio Grande, PR 00745 A site visit for interested applicants to look at the proposed locations and facilities is scheduled for September 19, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. starting at the Forest headquarters located at PR 191, Km. 4.4 Palmer, Rio Grande, PR.
