- Description
- DLA-TS VSP Bill of Material (BOM) This project focuses on the use of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) Frame and support located at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Transaction Services in Dayton, OH and Tracy, CA. This requirement focuses on the use of Hitachi VSP to maintain the DLA enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) solution. This provides greater support to the warfighter by ensuring that critical data is available 24x7, 365 days per year and provides the best value to the Government through data warehousing technology. This requirement is for a storage upgrade to existing equipment. (Please see the attachedd BOM for greater detail). Specifically this upgrade will include physical frame and capacity upgrades approximating 230TB (terabytes) of additional storage. This is not a stand-alone storage upgrade, but an addition to the current Hitachi Storage system. The new frame will integrate within the existing controllers on the current system and cannot be substituted for by another vendor. This upgrade requires homogeneous components to ensure interoperability with the current VSP Storage Area Network. The DLA Transaction Services designs, develops, and implements logistics solutions that improve customers' requisition processing and logistics management processes worldwide. The primary mission of the DLA Transaction Services is to receive, edit, and route logistics transactions for the Military Services and Federal Agencies, and provide value-added services for standard MILS transactions, such as network interoperability and logistics information services. The DLA Transaction Services is the facilitator by which the heterogeneous Service supply systems are made to function as a homogenous DoD supply system. The DLA Transaction Services receives over 9 billion DoD logistics transactions per year, and applies numerous DoD level and Service/Agency edits and validations against these transactions, and then routes the data to the appropriate destination. In addition, the DLA Transaction Services generates over 1.5 billion images of logistics transactions in support of Total Asset Visibility (TAV) requirements. The DLA Transaction Services provides interoperability between many unique Service supply systems. This is accomplished by translating, editing, and validating dissimilar, often non-standard, data formats, and then forwards the transformed data to the recipient in a format compatible with their system. In the continuing process to expand services for customers, DLA Transaction Services is operating a full-service EDI Telecommunications Hub and is maintaining and refining a Translation Engine for the any-to-any conversion of ANSI X12, MILS, and User-Defined Format (UDF) documents in any combination/direction. With this capability, DLA Transaction Services acts as an Electronic Business (EB) Gateway for the DoD and other Federal Civil Agencies, performing translation to/from formats specified by each of the customers. Essentially, the DLA Transaction Services is the facilitator that enables disparate systems to function homogenously. Due to the essential mission that DLA Transaction Services provides, the Department of Defense has defined the operation as Mission Assurance Category (MAC) I, which identifies the DLA Transaction Services processing as vital to the operational readiness or mission effectiveness of deployed and contingency forces in terms of both content and timeliness. The consequences of loss of integrity or availability of a MAC I system are unacceptable and could include the immediate and sustained loss of mission effectiveness. This sources sought synopsis will not result in a contract award. A separate solicitation for quotations will be issued at a future date. All respondants to this synopsis will be notified of the solicitation for quotations for this action.
