Description
The Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Groton, CT intends to execute a contract to accomplish the cleaning of fans 3 through 9, and 12 through 21 of a 688 Class Submarine. This includes all ventilation ducting and chillers associated with these fans. Baseline CO2 and O2 readings shall take place prior to starting any dry ice cleaning procedure on every accessible compartment on the vessel. All CO2 and O2 readings shall be taken before and after vent cleaning each day. CO2 and O2 readings shall be monitored and recorded continuously and in every accessible compartment on the vessel. Cleaning shall cease anytime CO2 readings exceed 3000 ppm or O2 level drops below 19.6%. When the cleaning process has been stopped, identify the deficiency and correct. Once corrected, and CO2 readings are below 2000 ppm and O2 readings are above 19.6%, then cleaning may be resumed. In addition to monitoring CO2 and O2 all standard shipboard safety procedures shall be followed. All companies providing dry ice cleaning shall have an approved vent cleaning procedure prior to the start of any cleaning. NAVSEA Code 05Z42 and NSWCCD-SSES Code 921 must approve all procedures, unless the company currently has an approved procedure by NAVSEA and NSWCCD. The company and all workers must possess a valid DoD government clearance to do the work. The period of performance for this effort is 23 Jan 2014 through 26 Feb 2014.
