- Description
- Rearview Video Systems - This test evaluates the image size of three specific targets placed behind a vehicle as recorded on its rear camera and presented on a video screen. The test is performed by analyzing the image size of a photograph of the video screen image of three objects, as recorded from a still camera mounted on a surrogate test dummy, known as an H-point machine. The camera is located at the location of the driver’s eye. There are three performance criteria that will be tested: Dynamic Brake Support (DBS) – This test evaluates the ability of a DBS system to detect, and respond to (and automatically supplement the vehicle’s foundation brake system), a hazard in the forward path of the test vehicle being evaluated. Two driving scenarios are utilized to assess DBS performance. In the first scenario, a subject test vehicle (SV) approaches a stopped principal other vehicle (POV) in the same lane of travel. The second scenario consists of the SV, traveling at a constant speed, approaching a slower POV moving at a constant speed. In both situations, the POV is a strikeable object with the characteristics of a compact passenger car that does not inflict property damage to the SV. Crash Imminent Braking (CIB) – This test requires the contractor to evaluate the ability of a CIB system to detect, and respond to via automatic activation of the vehicle’s foundation brake system, a hazard in the forward path of the vehicle being evaluated. Two driving scenarios are utilized to assess CIB performance. In the first scenario, a subject vehicle (SV) approaches a stopped principal other vehicle (POV) in the same lane of travel. The second scenario consists of the SV, traveling at a constant speed, approaching a slower POV moving at a constant speed. In both situations, the POV is a strikeable object with the characteristics of a compact passenger car that does not inflict property damage to the SV. Electronic Stability Control (ECS) – This test requires the contractor to evaluate equipment that will permit individual wheel brake torques and their operation during all phases of driving except below 20 km/h or in reverse, or when the antilock brake or traction control system is activated. The test also will measure the yaw rate and lateral displacement of the center of gravity of the test vehicle, when subjected to a sine with dwell steering maneuver. The contractor shall test for malfunction of the light system as well. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – This test requires that the test vehicle be driven in a straight line at a constant speed attempting to maintain the desired entrance speed. The driver should control the test vehicle in a straight line as the test vehicle approaches the start gate. The driver should not hit any cones that define the test start gate. Once the test vehicle passes the retro-reflective line within the entrance gate; the steering machine will initiate its program. The driver will keep a constant speed throughout the maneuver. The test will be considered complete when the test vehicle has completely departed the lane (the entire test vehicle is over the lane boundary). The test will be conducted at 45 mph on a straight roadway, with two different departure directions and three different styles of roadway markings (i.e., continuous white lines, discontinuous yellow lines, and raised pavement markers known as Bott Dots). Each test condition will be repeated at least 5 times. The alerts must occur within the range of 2.5 feet before and 1 foot after the lane marker. Contractor shall provide engineering services to perform testing in accordance with the Test Procedures for FCW (Attachment 1), LDW and LKS (Attachment 2), ESC (Attachment 3), CIB (Attachment 4), DBS (Attachment 5) and Rearview Video Systems (Attachment 6).
