US Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) Security Assistance Management Directorate (SAMD) is seeking sources for a handheld radar transponder beacon utilizing PPN-19 codes. The transponder beacon, handheld on the ground, transmits a response when interrogated by an incoming signal from an aircraft. This transponder response is a reply pulse train coded for the interrogating radar to identify and locate the transponder. The transponder is used as a locater beacon for personnel in distress during search and rescue, as a point designator to provide accurate delivery of ordnance by aircraft, for enroute navigation or pathfinder functions, and to outline dropzones. The interrogating signal is typically 8800-9800 MHz with 0.3microsec pulsewidth, horizontal polarization.
