Description
Request for Information for Commercial Airship Development REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) For UNITED STATES TRANSPORTATION COMMAND (USTRANSCOM) On COMMERCIAL AIRSHIP DEVELOPMENT The Senate Committee on Armed Services tasked the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) to report to Congressional Defense Committees on the status of developments in the commercial sector regarding airships. The focus is on airships that may bridge the gap between high-speed, lower capacity aircraft and low speed higher capacity sealift. USTRANSCOM is seeking information from industry on commercial airship development. This information must be provided at no cost to the Government, be non-proprietary and unclassified to be considered for use in the report. Please provide current status of commercial airship research efforts. In addition, please provide capabilities of commercially developed airship lift capabilities, list the benefits of using commercially developed/owned airship versus a DOD developed/owned airship; for example, how could a commercially owned/operated airship benefit the DOD's Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise and how they could be employed in Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief operations. Also, provide what you believe are the cost benefits of the DOD leveraging a commercially developed/owned airship versus a DOD developed/owned airship. Request the response in a Microsoft® Word document, no more than five pages, 12 point font. Illustrations can be included. The attached matrix may be submitted for additional information. Please provide a point of contact in your organization to answer additional questions. This RFI is being issued for informational purposes only. This announcement is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or solicitation of any kind. Responses to this RFI are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Furthermore, USTRANSCOM is not seeking or accepting unsolicited proposals for this requirement. This notice should not be construed as a commitment of any type by the Government to take or not take any action. USTRANSCOM will not be responsible for any costs incurred by interested parties in responding to this RFI.
