Interested parties should demonstrate knowledge with sustainable landscape construction projects, including work in soil work/excavation, manufactured soils, specialized plant procurement, concrete work, reused/recycled hardscape materials, landscaping, stone masonry, irrigation plumbing, and electrical. All qualified candidates should submit capability statements for consideration. Capability statements received will be reviewed to determine the experience and management of such offerors to perform this type of work. The capability statements will be used to determine appropriate procurement strategy for maximizing competition with companies with the necessary experience and certifications to meet Sustainable SITES. This information will be used to identify potential sources that have the unique experience necessary to accomplish the project. These sources will then be requested to submit a bid package for the construction, estimated to be between $800,000.00 and $4,000,000.00, and broken into phases. The project involves the renovation and revitalization of the Bartholdi Park using SITES Guidelines. The site is located at the United States Botanical Gardens (USBG) in Washington, DC. Construction in this effort will include an edible garden featuring permaculture techniques and new pathways from recycled material, new concrete pavement, and area of storm water infiltration. The existing Northwest fountain will be repurposed from an ornamental feature into the lowest catchment of a series of rain garden features. A garden with plants suited for wet and dry soils will replace what was once the fountain water. A woodland walk provides a closer look at native plant material that you would find in a shadier, dense planting scheme. This project will make Bartholdi Park safe, educational, and accessible both internally, for visitors, and as a corridor from the House Offices, to the Capitol, and to the adjacent American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial (opening October 2014). This construction project will be submitted for Sustainable Sites Certification.
