Description
Solicitation Package The Forest Service is looking to rent an excavator for stream restoration work in Kyle Canyon, and Lovell Canyon, as well as road repairs on the Griffith Peak Road. The sites are located entirely in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Kyle Canyon and Griffith Peak are located approximately 45 minutes, and 60 minutes northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, respectively, while Lovell Canyon is located approximately 70 minutes west of Las Vegas, Nevada (west of the town of Mountain Springs, off State Route 160). The excavator will be used to move and place riprap, measured between 36 and 60 inches (diameter), and excavator hard, rocky embankments along the fire-damaged Griffith Peak Road. The terrain the excavator will be used on is rocky, with occasional steep embankments. The Forest Service would like to rent one (1) Excavator, CAT 321, or one with salient characteristics', starting as early as February 14th, 2014. Due to the type of work, the Forest Service will require the excavator to have a thumb attachment to pick up 36 to 60 inch riprap. The Forest Service will also require one single shank ripper attachment, to be swapped out on the excavator as needed, for excavation of hard, rocky embankments. The Forest Service will rent this excavator (or one with salient characteristics') for duration for 1 to 4 weeks (trial period/Base Period) to determine the suitability of this equipment, for use on Forest Service lands. Five days before the end of the trial period, the Forest Service will determine if they will be exercising any of the option line items. The performance period for these rentals could extend up to September 30, 2014. The excavator is to be delivered in Kyle Canyon, off State Route 157, at a destination to be determined later (Assume no more than approximately 17 miles west of US 95 intersection, near the Forest Service Visitor Center). The final pickup location for the excavator will be determined later.
