Description
The Air Force Research Laboratory is announcing to businesses its intent to solicit proposals under the Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) number BAA-RQKP-2014-0010. This effort will require conducting approximately 80% on-site (Building 490, Area B, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio) applied research and development relating to critical turbine engine mechanical system technology targeted for high performance, highly efficient & adaptive turbine engines being developed under the Versatile Affordable Advanced Turbine Engine (VAATE) and the Adaptive Engine Technology Development (AETD) programs. The objectives of this program include developing advanced turbine engine mechanical system technologies that enable higher temperature, higher load capacity, & effective thermal management capability. Develop and investigate rolling element bearings, bearing materials, lubricants and air foil bearings for VAATE and AETD applications. Design, modify and operate research facilities for the collection of bearing performance, heat generation, and heat transfer data. Improve thermal management of turbine engine mechanical systems via modeling and simulation. Improve the reliability and reduce cost of turbine engine mechanical systems through improved analytical design. Performance period is estimated from June 2014 through November 2019. The BAA release date will be approximately 15 days after this Notice of Contract Action (NOCA) synopsis posting date.
