- The contractor will provide an MRI physicist to perform work at the following location: Portland VA Medical Center 3710 SW US Veterans Hospital Road Portland, OR 97239 It is anticipated that a solicitation will be issued on or about 3/28/2014. The awarded contract will include a base year, and four one-year option periods. The physicist will work approximately 300 hours per year. The MRI physicist will provide support services as needed, to the PVAMC Imaging Service. In conjunction with the Chief of Imaging Service, this physicist will: a. promote and oversee practice protocols and guidelines that will ensure quality and effective care for veteran patients. The physicist will also ensure that appropriate quality control standards are established and maintained. b. Provide feedback regarding issues of equipment function, dysfunction, safety and intermittent issues related to unexplained artifacts and scan quality. The MRI physicist will assist in educating the MRI technologists regarding equipment issues and the techniques for optimal utilization of MRI equipment. c. In conjunction with the Chief of Imaging Service, the MRI physicist will assist in developing and overseeing an MRI Quality program in collaboration with the equipment vendors. This program would be expected to incorporate the major guidelines of the ACR program. The MRI physicist will train the MRI technologists in daily, weekly assessments using MRI phantoms. The MRI physicist will provide quality control review/documentation consistent with regulatory requirements. d. The physicist will provide feedback and have technical discussions with MRI staff physicians on selection and optimization of imaging protocols. The Physicist will assist with other departmental physicists and physicians regarding clinical MRI procedures (e.g., neurology neurosurgery, etc.). e. In conjunction with the Chief of Imaging Service, the MRI physicist will assist in any MRI purchase process, including capital equipment needs analysis, prioritization and acquisition relating to MRI equipment and upgrades. f. Will assume joint responsibility with PVAMC for strict compliance with requirements and standards of regulatory agencies and accreditation organizations, e.g., Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) http://www.jointcommission.org/standards/ and Occupational, Health and Safety Agency (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/, including preparation for and participation in relevant surveys. g. The MRI physicist may contribute to residency educational programs through lecture series, consultations and informal review with residents and staff regarding MRI physics and clinical applications. h. The MRI physicist will provide MRI Safety Training to PVAMC staff annually and as needed.
