- Description
- Sources Sought Notice "NREL Corporate History" March 25, 2014 INTRODUCTION The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is the U.S. Department of Energy's primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. NREL develops renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and practices, advances related science and engineering, and transfers knowledge and innovations to address the nation's energy and environmental goals. BACKGROUND NREL began operating in 1977 as the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI). In 1991, SERI's name was changed to NREL and was designated a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). NREL is managed for the DOE by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC. NREL's areas of research and development expertise are renewable electricity, renewable fuels, integrated energy systems, energy efficiency, and strategic energy analysis. OBJECTIVE Produce a narratively and visually compelling corporate history to document NREL's 35+ years in order to retain historical knowledge, educate the public and private sectors about NREL, and promote the many accomplishments of the lab and its research. The history will be disseminated via multiple mechanisms to reach the largest possible audience. Possible mechanisms include NREL.gov, an interactive digital sign directed at visitors, and a mobile application optimized for tablets. SCOPE Content for the project will be distilled from existing organization documents, a/v materials, and archives, as well as via interviews and oral histories with key laboratory personnel. From the existing materials and interviews, information will be researched, evaluated, and organized into meaningful and relevant stories. To complement these stories, short videos will be produced from interviews with former and current NREL employees. The stories, including the tools used to present them, will be developed in such a way that NREL will have the capability to update and maintain the information going forward. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Organizations responding to this Sources Sought request must demonstrate specific capabilities, attributes, and skills, as indicated below. NREL reserves the right to include additional requirements for qualification in any resultant official Request for Proposal. • Experience developing corporate histories • Experience developing multimedia content • Project coordination • Research and distillation of NREL's archive • Translation of technical information about NREL's sciences and technologies into non-technical content for a lay audience • Content creation, writing and editing for multiple delivery mechanisms including the Web, mobile applications, and signage • Coordinate the development of oral histories through collaboration with internal video team. • Ability to propose other creative solutions for documenting and disseminating NREL's history • On-site work and collaboration with the NREL project team, as needed • Make available an online collaboration tool for project reviews, communication, etc. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE, NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. VERBAL RESPONSES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. ALL INQUIRIES MUST BE PROVIDED IN WRITING VIA E-MAIL. Any organizations interested in working with NREL to provide the services described within this Sources Sought Notification shall provide a Letter of Interest as soon as possible but no later than 5 pm, MDT, April 11, 2014. Telephone calls will not be accepted. Interested parties shall provide this Letter of Interest via email to Rebecca Dohrn (rebecca.dohrn@nrel.gov).
