Description
Contract Period: August 1, 2014 - July 31, 2015 + 4 Option Periods The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Canandaigua VA Medical Center, located in VISN 2 in New York State, has a need for Equine Therapy services as part of its Rural Health Outreach program. The goal of the Equine Therapy program is to engage rural Veterans in health care through the provision of alternate modalities of treatment. The contract facility must be located within a 5-county geographic area served by the Canandaigua VAMC. This area includes Wayne, Seneca, Livingston, Ontario and Monroe counties. Lessons will be provided to Veterans with physical, mental, and behavioral challenges in order to gain strength and independence through the power of the horse, with an emphasis on female, homeless, and combat Veterans. It is understood that the Veterans being served through this contract may have been diagnosed with mental health and/or substance use disorders. The Contractor will be required to provide equine assisted therapy services and evaluation tools by a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) or Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) certified instructor. The Contractor will not be required to provide additional clinical therapy, psychopharmacology, or other hospital level treatment - those services will be provided by the VA at VA facilities. Eligible Veterans will participate in the program once a week for 6-8 consecutive weeks, with sessions running continuously throughout the year. The service shall be available for a group of 1-5 Veterans.
