Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention contemplates award of a sole source, firm-fixed-price purchase order to RainDance Technologies, Inc. 749 Middlesex Turnpike, Billerica, MA 01821, for purchase of the RainDrop Digital PCR System and RainStorm droplet-based microfluidic technology. The RDT RainDrop Digital PCR System is an integrated platform comprised of the RainDrop Source instrument with dedicated PC-based workstation, the RainDrop Sense instrument with dedicated PC-based workstation, instrument control software, dedicated disposable microfluidic chips, and dedicated reagents. The RDT RainDrop is used to prepare up to 10 million picoliter-volume PCR reactions with primer-probe sets, which is 1000 times more data than other available technology. The RainDrop Source instrument and workstation are operated such that each droplet created is expected to contain a single target molecule for PCR. The resulting PCR reactions are prepared in a format that is compatible with thermal cycling using standard laboratory thermal cyclers running RDT-defined protocols. Positive and negative PCR reactions in the droplets are analyzed in the RanDrop Sense instrument and workstation. DNA after amplification and analysis in digital PCR systems can be used for futher applications (sequencing, cloning, expression), and multiplex detection of 10 different pathogens for one sample is possible, compared to 2 pathogens detection of other units. This contract action is for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all responses received within five (5) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any response should be emailed to the purchasing agent at lml3@cdc.gov by 4:30 p.m. EDT, June 10, 2014.
