- Description
- OXYGEN MASK HEADNET ASSEMBLY QUICK DISCONNECT FREIGHT Minimum Essential Characteristics The Minimum Essential Characteristics include the following: The requested items, hypobaric oxygen masks with hose assemblies, head net mounting system, and quick disconnect connectors, are to be completely compatible with the same items that are already in-house and are being used in USAARL research. The requested items are needed to create a field data collection facility that is identical with the USAARL in-house data collection facility. Every effort should be made to ensure that the field data collection facility is completely comparable to the in-house data collection facility so that artifactual differences in data are not due to inadvertent differences in supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. The items must be interface with the instrument purchased under # 0010395538 PRC 43255, the Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device (ROBD), which is a portable, computerized, gas-blending instrument that generates altitude-referenced hypoxia in human volunteers without producing changes in atmospheric pressure. The present request is for items that connect the human research volunteer to the ROBD on the input side and to a metabolic measuring system on the output side. The requested items include hypobaric oxygen masks that make a secure, comfortable, air-tight seal around the volunteer's mouth and nose. Each mask includes two hose assemblies, one connected to the mask input port and one connected to the mask output port. These masks come in assorted sizes to fit a range of face/head sizes. The mask sizes must fit: (a) small narrow, (b) medium narrow, (c) medium wide, and (d) large wide. Also included is the capability to put the mask on and take it off within seconds. This speed is achieved with a head-net assembly that provides a secure anchoring system to fasten the masks with Velcro, so that they can be rapidly and easily put on and taken off. The head net assemblies must come in (a) small, (b) medium, and (c) large sizes to fit a range of size heads. The masks with the hose connections must be soft and light weight (about 180 grams) so that they can be used for an extended period of time without discomfort. The mask must have a decreased mask cavity volume to minimize rebreathing. The mask must have low inhalation and exhalation resistance. The masks must form an airtight seal with the face. The masks must be easily and quickly put on and taken off, that is, the mask attaches to the head net assembly with Velcro straps that can be fastened or unfastened in a matter of moments. The Quick Disconnect Adaptor is an adaptor that connects the requested Mask assembly and hoses to the standard aviation port, which is also the output port of the ROBD. Our experience with other masks has been that they are cumbersome, or do not provide an airtight seal, or are uncomfortable and intrusive after being worn for any period of time, or are heavy, or require a complicate head mounting system.
