Description
Questions and Responses- Will all these products be used in a complete build? >> Yes, the delivery must be the fully assembled computers using the parts listed (or similar), tested to verify that all hardware is recognized within the BIOS - Should the motherboard in the solution be compatible with the full solution or is this just a parts list? >> I'm not sure what that means...The RFQ is for fully built computers. The motherboard must be able to integrate the processor, all the peripherals and fit in the physical case. So yes, it has to be fully compatible with the other components. It must also provide the specific capabilities listed (dual gigabit LAN, 3 PCI, 1 PCIE x16, PS/2 mouse and keyboard, 2 COM ports exposed by board). Ideally, the motherboard would match one of the two that we've already used to ensure hardware compatibility. If not, we'll have to verify hardware compatibility before purchasing all of the computers. - What will this solution be used for? >> Hardware spares for an existing US Navy system, hence the specific requirements for hardware compatibility. - Are you looking for these specific parts or close comparables? >> Some must be specific (i.e. hard drive, hard drive removable tray), some need only be similar (form factor of case, comparable NVIDIA video card with outputs, processor, etc). If the parts list states a part number without 'or equiv', that means it MUST come with that part. - Would a bare bones system be something that would fit your needs? >> I guess that depends on the definition of 'bare-bones'. To me, 'bare-bones' means 'partially capable, needs more components/assembly work'. This RFQ is for a fully built system (configured to be hardware compatible with existing systems) that is just waiting on the OS. We should be able to open the box, plug it in, swap in a imaged hard drive from one of our existing computers and boot the system into the OS with no extra assembly. - What will the video cards be used for in these builds? >> Some OpenGL rendering, but no 3D gaming or the like. A basic card on the order of capability as the GT 240 (but in the 300 or greater series due to driver obsolescence) will be sufficient. Must have the VGA/DVI outputs. Others are unimportant. - What OS will this system be running? >> Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but this will be added at our site. The hard drives should come blank.
