- The following questions were submitted for this requirement. Please see the questions/answers below. 1. What are the rope and fall arrest assets maintained by the Unit? All Fall Arrest equipment meet the ANSI Z359.1- 2007 standards. There is a limit of 130lbs to 310lbs on equipment utilized. Although equipment of higher rating may be available it is not authorized for use. Although there may be climbers who weigh less than 130lbs with gear, harnesses are not authorized for use. Minimum Equipment required onboard is: 8 Harnesses With All D-Rings 8 Restraint Lanyards (2 Rebar, 6 Adjustable) 8 Fall Arrest Lanyards (Adjustable Single leg, Small Hook Y Lanyard, Ladder Hook Y lanyards) 6 Carabineers, (Double Locking) 2 Tie-Off Anchor Straps 4 Ladder Safety Devices (antenna Modified sleeves) * May be decreased for ATF and ARS; 12 foot lanyards are not authorized on MSC vessels Other Equipment- Vessels may find many task are easier and safer with the use of a SRL or Self Retracting Lifeline. These devices significantly reduce potential total fall distance and ships are authorized to procure and utilize SRLs as part of Fall Protection Program. SRLs requirements: Must be ANSI 359.1 2007 compliant. Additional Equipment carried aboard may include: Beam Clamps, Portable Ladders, Scaffolds, Bosun's Chairs, Safety Lines and Rope Grabs, Suspended Scaffold 2. What skill level are the prospective 48 students currently trained to? 3.2.5.1 There are four tiers of training for Fall Protection: Authorized Person (AP) Authorized Rescuer (AR) Competent Person/Rescue (CP/R) Competent Person/Authorized Rescuer Trainer Members of Afloat Training Teams (ATTs), TRACEN Staff and ashore Safety Staff have completed Fall Protection/ Rescuer Training. Training Teams (ATTs), TRACEN Staff and ashore Safety Staff shall receive Fall Protection training (40Hrs) as a pre-requisite to their providing Authorized User Fall Protection Training to the ship's force. "Authorized Person" End User Fall Protection Training shall be part of the new crew member curriculum provided at the Training Center. This training may also be provided on board ship by the ATT and graduates of CP/R Course if they use TCE curriculum (approximately 4 - 6 hours). Authorized Rescuer (8hrs) is available from Training Center East or ATT for ship board training. Competent Person/Authorized Rescuer training is available from Training Center East. Note: The course must also provide hands on training using the G4 Fall Protection Rescue Kit. 3. July 5, 2014 is a Saturday, does that have any bearing on due date? The due date is Saturday July 5, 2014 at 4pm EST. Saturday does have no bearing whatsoever on the due date.
