Description
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR VA259-14-Q-0554 QUESTIONS: 1.The bid states that it is for 600 patients at 1,052 calories/day for 7 days. At 3 meals per day per person that is a total of 12,600 servings. When I sum the quantities by individual components I get much more than this amount. I am fine bidding either way I just would like to know exactly what quantities I should use when preparing the bid. 2.The overall calorie quantity of 1,052 does not seem consistent with the calorie requirements stated for Breakfast (1,330) and Lunch (2,590). Please clarify the calorie requirements by day and by meal/serving 3.Gluten Free states that it should equal a 40 day package @ 1,770 calories. How many people would this need to be prepared for? Should it instead read "40 person" package? 4.The bid states that all ingredients must be freeze-dried. We can meet this requirement, however, the cost will increase [REDACTED]. The stated reason for this requirement appears to be the ability to rehydrate properly and easily in the event of an emergency and the ability to achieve a 25 year shelf life. Our products that are a mixture of freeze-dried and dehydrated ingredients can meet all the same criteria. They have a 25 year shelf life, prepare easy by just adding water (hot or cold-no cooking necessary), and taste great. In light of these considerations, please let me know if you remain open to a bid that includes some dehydrated ingredients. ANSWERS: It looks like our plan for the 1052 kcals only provides 2 meals per day. We need to provide 3 meals daily. The below plan provides an average of 1250 kcals daily with 3 meals daily for 7 days, 600 people. We would accept higher calorie as long as the total servings is close enough to our request. Breakfast - 4200 meals - providing an average of 220 kcals per entree Lunch/Dinner- 8400 meals - providing an average of 235 kcals per entrée- (twice daily) Dessert - 2100 servings - providing an average of 200 kcals per serving (for every other day intake) Rice - 2100 servings - providing an average of 200 kcals per serving (for every other day intake) Milk - 4200 servings - providing an average of 100 kcals per serving (daily) Drinks- 4200 servings - providing an average of 100 kcals per serving (daily) Fruit - 8400 servings - providing an average of 55 kcals/per serving (twice daily) Vegetables- 4200 servings - providing an average of 55 kcals/per serving (daily) Gluten free should feed at least 11 people and have similar calories as above. -Breakfast - at least 77 servings -Lunch/Dinner- at least 154 servings -Milk - at least 77 servings -Drinks - at least 77 servings -Rice - at least 77 servings Dehydrated is ok if it reconstitutes easily with just water (**as long as the meat products are NOT dehydrated). No heat required. And includes meat products. Many dehydrated entrée's do not have meat so that is why we want freeze-dried.
