- Description
- Replacement of treatment units and associated buildings of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) Facility, located at the Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, New Cumberland, PA 17070. The treatment units and associated buildings that require replacement include, but are not limited to, the existing headworks (influent screening), aeration tank, clarifier tank, tertiary filters, sludge holding tanks, chlorine contact tank, control building, access road, underground utilities, electrical service and ancillary features. The aeration tank, clarifier tank, effluent tertiary filter, chlorine contact tanks, filter building, chlorine building, alum storage building, two (2) storage sheds, the control building and the influent sampler shed will be demolished as part of the project. The project also includes repair of existing sinkhole conditions on the WWTP site. Generally, the proposed treatment plant upgrade will include a new influent screening facility, new sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), a new aerated sludge holding tank, new ultraviolet system (UV), new post aeration tank, new process pumps and blowers, new chemical storage and feed facilities, new influent and effluent samplers, instrumentation and control systems, new electric service, new non-potable plant water pumping system, and new control building. Supporting facilities include electrical service, heating and air conditioning systems, water, sanitary sewer, roadway improvements, storm drainage, sidewalks, fencing, CCTV, access control systems, site preparation and improvements, fire protection and alarm systems, and information systems to include all necessary instrumentation, control, telecommunications and data systems. The new treatment units will treat 0.320 million gallons per day (MGD) of sewage. The existing WWTP shall remain in service until such time that the new facilities have been brought on line and certified by both the Government and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) as meeting NPDES Permit Discharge Monitoring Requirements.
