Description
Section 206 Ecosystem Restoration Project The project is an ecosystem restoration project located along Boulder Creek in Boulder County, Colorado. The work reach along Boulder Creek is located between N. 109th Street at the west limit to just west of N. 115th Street/Kenosha Road at the east limit. The work in general consists of: 1) excavating a new meandering channel (2-yr bank-full) for Boulder Creek, 2) excavating floodplain benches of various widths, approximating 150 feet, along the new meandering channel, 3) filling the abandoned portion of the existing Boulder Creek channel in conjunction with grading the floodplain benches, 4) constructing shallow pools, cobble riffles, cobble point bars, and large woody debris points in the new channel, reestablishing stream diversity for fish habitat and other aquatic life, and 5) providing plantings on the bank-full channel slopes and floodplain benches to recreate a riparian community with diverse native species. The new meandering Boulder Creek channel and associated ecosystem restoration work has an approximately length of 6,100 feet. The new bank-full (2-yr.) channel has an approximately top of bank width of 58 feet. Constructing the meandering Boulder Creek channel project will involve: excavation of approximately 160,000 cubic yards of soil, weathered rock, and topsoil; on-site and nearby off-site disposal of approximately 125,000 cubic yards of surplus excavated soil and weathered rock; removal (clearing and grubbing) of designated trees and shrubs; salvaging and transplanting of designated trees; removal of fence line; installation of approximately 4,600 linear feet of 4-strand barbed wire fence; construction of a 24-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe culvert (72 linear feet) with FES inlet structure and C-I-P outlet structure; and construction of various erosion protection features within the project site. The project will also require the seeding and planting of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants on approximately 41 acres of project land; seeding approximately 12 acres of disposal areas; and subsequent care of that vegetation to ensure its establishment. (Quantities are Approximate) The estimated construction cost of this project is between $1,500,000 and $3,000,000.
