- Description
- Modified Specifically For Acquisition and Radio transmission of Seismic Frequencies. The sonobuoys (buoy equipped for detecting underwater sounds and transmitting them by radio) will be used as part of an experiment to map sediment thickness off the U.S. Atlantic continental margin mostly beyond 200 nmi, in water depths generally from 3000-5000 m. The sonobuoys will be used (a) to augment and validate the multichannel seismic reflection velocity solutions with direct refracted arrivals within the sediments; (b) to unequivocally identify the basement surface with large-offset refraction velocity measurements; and (c) to research p-wave to s-wave conversions within the sediments, crust, and mantle. Delivery required on or before August 1, 2014
