- Description
- The US Geological Survey, Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (USGS), requires a portable, long range and high speed data acquisition 3D laser (LiDAR) scanner in order to conduct detailed topographic surveys and mapping for a wide range of research and monitoring applications under extreme field conditions in the Grand Canyon. Long range is critical because it allows scientists to acquire data from greater distances away from, and outside of, the area that is to be mapped; it is necessary due to permitting requirements of the National Park Service for GCMRC scientists to complete surveys without directly impacting (e.g., walking on) the area that is surveyed and mapped, which requires that LiDAR data be acquired from vantage points that are distal to (longer range from) the area under investigation. Data acquisition speed is an extremely important consideration because higher speeds: minimize the amount of time that scientists spend completing an individual survey; maximize the number of individual surveys that can be completed in a single field campaign; and minimize time and money spent in the field on logistically challenging campaigns in the Grand Canyon. The USGS intends to fulfill this requirement by noncompetitively purchasing a Riegl VZ-1000 from Riegl USA, Inc. in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), only one source reasonably available. http://products.rieglusa.com/item/terrestrial-scanners/0-3d-laser-scanner-with-online-waveform-processing/item-1012 The Riegl VZ-1000 has a unique combination of long range (1,000 meters) and high speed (up to 122,000 points per second) that makes it perfectly suited for GCMRCs mission. The USGS requires a scanner that is both long range (minimum 1,000 meters) and high speed; competitive products are either one or the other. Other interested parties may contact the Contracting Officer at jcaravelli@usgs.gov before the closing date of this announcement for additional information or to submit a capability statement. Capability statements will be evaluated solely to determine whether a competitive opportunity exists; quotations are not solicited at this time. PSC 6675, drafting, surveying, and mapping instruments. NAICS 334519, other measuring and controlling device manufacturing. Small business size standard 500 employees. END
