Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with ColdQuanta Inc., for the acquisition of a Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT), needed by the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) at NIST Gaithersburg, MD campus. *****Sole Source determination is based on the need to purchase a miniMOT for Cs atoms and a miniMOT kit to form a MOT system which is a highly specialized device that traps atoms to eliminate their movement. The MOT works with a laser at wavelengths resonating with Cs atoms. The MOT system will allow the C atoms to cool at a temperature as low as 50 micro-Kelvin. ColdQuanta Inc. is the only known vendor capable in providing a MOT. ***Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION and be completed in accordance with the Contractor's commercial schedule. *** *****The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 Employees. ******A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. *****No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, responses received by July 25, 2014 will be considered by the Government.
