- Description
- Sandia National Laboratories offers for commercial licensing a patent (U.S. Patent No. 7,697,134) that describes a novel correlation spectrometer for measuring trace amounts of chemicals like methane or carbon monoxide. Correlation spectrometers measure trace amounts of a chemical in the presence of a lot of other chemicals by comparing the light transmission of a sample to a known reference. The Sandia spectrometer encodes dozens of reference signals onto a compact disk, alleviating the need to port around reference gas samples or run samples to a lab for gas chromatography. The disk-encoded correlation spectrometer enables rapid, high confidence point-of-service measurements of trace gases. The Sandia Correlation Spectrometer can be made extremely compact (e.g. 2" by 2" by 1"), lending itself to applications requiring a portable system, such as carbon monoxide testing, gas pipeline safety, industrial process monitoring, and environmental air quality monitoring. The system was optimized for infrared chemical signature detection and the disk-encoded references make it ideal for detection where other gases may interfere with testing or spectral properties may not be fully resolved. Sandia seeks to license technologies for the benefit of the US public good. It is anticipated that commercial licenses may grant rights on a competitive basis to qualified interested parties for appropriate consideration. Licensing options may include grants for defined fields of use, non-exclusive rights, and exclusive and sublicensing rights. Partnerships to commercialize this technology may also take the form of Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs). Sandia National Laboratories is a multiprogram laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
