- Description
- A.Description The Treatment and Branch Support, of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) proposes to procure a Bio Wheel Rat Cage with wheel and assembly lid, optical counter display and soft interface and software controls for The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) from EB Instruments, P.O. Box 2156 Pinellas Park, Florida 33780. B.Background The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is the Federal Government's lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine. C.Requirement The requirement consist of the procurement of BioSeb rat activity wheels which are fully automated running wheels with cages that measure real time status for every wheel, direction of rotation, distance covered, velocity, acceleration, auto-saved data in an excel file with numbers of turns and pausing option for cleaning. The electronic unit is equipped with a display showing either clockwise or counter-clock distance as well as cumulative distance. The instrument works with or without software and all cages are linked together via a single USB A-B cable. The system can be expanded to include up to 64 wheels monitored by a single computer. For the experiments involving exercise-induced analgesia, NCCAM is recording running behavior from large cohorts of rats. Previously, they found that analysis of running behavior occupied the majority of our research time. This particular device is required because of its capacity to simultaneously monitor multiple activity wheels with one computer, as well as its automated analysis of activity (consistent testing). Equipment Specifications: Cage for rat: made with polycarbonate (480 x 265 x 210 mm) stainless steel grid designed to accept food pellets and 1 water bottle. Stainless steel wheel: An Instrument with electronic sensors that allows both Clockwise and Counter-clock wise detection with a Sensitivity of 15°. The "MODBUS" technology accommodates a single wire for up to 64 wheels. Different start and auto stop options are possible. The electronic unit is equipped with a display showing either clockwise or counter-clock distance as well as cumulative distance. The instrument works with or without software and all cages are linked together via a single USB A-B cable.
. Raw data, period filtered data, and statistics are sent directly to excel. The format is compatible with chrono-biology software such as chronokit or actogram. Interface: Transfer data rate, every 20 msec. Up to 64 cages on request. Connection to PC through RS-232/ USB at 19200 baud. Software: BIO-ACTIVW-Soft - Works with Windows 7 or 8 on PC's with 32 or 64 bits. Features: Real time status for every wheel, direction of rotation, distance covered, acceleration, auto-saved data in an excel file with numbers of turns, pausing option for cleaning. Replay possible to modify the period of analysis. D.Proposed Source EB Instruments, P.O. Box 2156 Pinellas Park, Florida 33780 E.Capability Statements This is not a solicitation for competitive proposals. However, if any other interested party believes that it can meet the requirements it may submit a statement of capabilities.
