- Description
- Solicitation LCOIS14Q0067 The Library of Congress (LOC) collection materials include millions of items in formats such as monographs, serials, bound newspapers, pamphlets, manuscripts, sound recordings, films, videos, sheet music, photographs, posters, microfilm, and maps. Since the 1990's, LOC has been digitizing its collections to make them accessible on the web. Large format materials have presented special digitization challenges, including their unwieldy size and the time required to scan. LOC is interested taking advantage of technology advances to produce high quality digital duplicates of oversize originals in an efficient manner with a minimum of handling. Of particular interest in the context are the LOC's large collections of oversized cartographic materials. LOC currently uses the Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system, which is capable of efficiently and accurately capturing oversized reflective originals of various formats and sizes up to 52" x 78". This scanning system is capable of capturing a digital image, regardless of the technology and engineering approach employed, as long as it meets the requirements of LOC. The scanning system provides high levels of throughput, and will lend itself to incremental updates over time to take advantage of improved technologies. LOC has established both information capture and imaging performance levels for the preservation digitization of these photographic originals. General requirements are described in the FADGI Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials: Creation of Raster Image Master Files (http://www.digitizationguidelines.gov/guidelines/FADGI_Still_Image-Tech_Guidelines_2010-08-24.pdf). The Contractor shall deliver a Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system, which includes a scanner, computer workstation(s), and related software for image capture and image processing for creating high-resolution, high-quality digital images of oversized originals. Base Period: September 27, 2014 - September 26, 2015. Option Year I (*): 12 months. Option Year II (*): 12 months. Option Year III (*): 12 months. Option Year IV (*): 12 months. (*) See Section B.1. of solicitation.
