Description
On or about September 3, 2014, a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued by the National Park Service (NPS) to solicit proposals from the private sector to lease, on a long-term basis, one or two of the historic properties in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore: the Chellberg Farm outbuildings and fields, and/or the Charles P. Nelson House. Both properties are eligible for National Register listing. The Chellberg Farm is located at 900 N. Minerals Springs Rd, Porter, IN, and the Charles P. Nelson house is located directly across Minerals Springs Road from the Farm. The Chellberg Farm property includes four fields and a non-extant orchard field for a total of + /- 18 acres. Outbuildings available through this lease include the barn, chicken coop, corncrib, granary, maple sugar shack, and pump house and windmill. If an on-site residence is desirable, the Charles P. Nelson House is available as an option to the farm lease. Built in 1891, the brick farmhouse has two bedrooms and a 20th bathroom upstairs, which is the only major alteration to the original house. The Nelson property also contains a workshop/shed and a windmill. All buildings located at the Chellberg farm have been restored and maintained by NPS staff and are listed in Good condition. The Nelson house will require some restoration prior to occupancy. Parties interested in obtaining an RFP should contact Chief of Administration and Business Services, Liz McConnell by mail at 1100 N. Mineral Springs Rd, Porter, IN 46304, by email at liz_mcconnell@nps.gov, or by phone at 219-395-1703. Electronic copies of the RFPs are also available on the park's website at: http://www.nps.gov/indu/parkmgmt/upload/ChellbergFarmRFP.pdf If you choose to retrieve a copy from the park's website, please notify Ms. McConnell so you are placed on the mailing list to receive notifications or other correspondence regarding this RFP. Any offer must be received by 4:30 p.m. on January 9, 2015, hand carried, mail or overnight delivery to National Park Service, Midwest Regional Office, 601 Riverfront Drive, Omaha, NE 68102, Attention: Commercial Services Manager.
