- Description
- The Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation Structure Replacements project includes a Base Bid and one (1) Optional Bid Item. The work includes demolition and removal of the existing Herbert Hoover Dike Culverts 12A and 2 and the construction of new water control Structures S-274 and S-278 at the respective existing locations of Culverts 12A and 2. The demolition and reconstruction efforts will require the installation of a cofferdam around each structure site consisting of earth and steel sheet pile within Lake Okeechobee and steel sheet pile at the landside in order to dewater each construction site. These structures will include cast-in-place reinforced concrete foundations, headwalls, endwalls, culvert barrels with steel liners, and sheetpile scour cutoff walls under all headwalls and endwalls. Combination flap/slide gates will be installed at the lakeside headwall of each structure. S-274 will consist of one (1) 8-foot diameter culvert approximately 180 feet long. S-278 will consist of three (3) 10-foot diameter culverts approximately 170 feet long. A cutoff wall will also be installed in the centerline of the embankment at each site. The embankments will be reconstructed to match the existing crest elevation of the dike. Restoration riprap will be installed along the lakeside embankment faces and control buildings will be installed at the landside work platform at each structure. Work also includes placement of surcharge fill (S-278 only), by-pass pumping (S-274 only), grassing and turbidity monitoring. Option A is for the Removal of petroleum contaminated soil at the S-274 (C-12A) Site.
