Description
BACKGROUND The MCR North Jetty was constructed between 1912 and 1917, with repairs to the segment specific to this Contract occurring in 1939 and 1965. An interim repair to an adjacent landward portion was conducted in 2005. The outer portion of the jetty has experienced significant damage from winter storms resulting not only in loss of jetty length, but also to a narrowing and lowering of the jetty side slopes and crest section starting just offshore and extending to the current end of the jetty. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The jetty repairs are intended to rebuild the jetty cross section to create a more substantial end to resist the waves at the outer portion of the jetty. Essential elements of the jetty repair execution include the solid seating of the toe stone, maximized interlocking of the armor stone, and tying in the new jetty stone placed with the jetty trunk and the relic stone base. The repairs shall consist of providing a Contractor designed access ramp from the staging area to the top of the existing jetty crest, constructing and maintaining a haul road from the ramp to the critical repair site, creating a transition area between the existing jetty and the repair site, and repairing the outer end of the jetty as shown on the drawings. Some haul road construction, including filling large voids, is anticipated to gain access to the jetty repair area. The transition area is to be no longer than 50 feet and start no further eastward than station 84+50. The repair will extend to station 99+00. LOCATION The work shall be located on the North Jetty, with staging and stockpile areas located landward of the North Jetty, west of jetty stations 41+00. The North Jetty is located at Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby State Park) in Pacific County, Washington, near the town of Ilwaco. Access to the site from Ilwaco is by way of Highway 101, which connects to State Route 100, which connects to Fort Canby Road, which connects to Jetty Road, as shown on drawings. Contractor access to the work site will be from Jetty Road. Project Street/Location: Cape Disappointment State Park, Jetty Road Nearest City: Ilwaco State: Washington ZIP Code: 98624 County: Pacific
