- Description
- Camp Navajo consists of 28,347 acres, and was originally known as the Navajo Army Depot, operating as a reserve supply depot for the receipt, shipping, storage, surveillance, minor maintenance and demilitarization of obsolete ammunition/explosives and assigned commodities. The Area known as the Open Burn/Open Detonation (OB/OD) consists of 2,000 acres, and was formerly used for demilitarization and land disposal of obsolete and unserviceable conventional ammunition, explosives, and limited chemical warfare agents. In 2003, the ANGD negotiated a RCRA Closure Strategy with the state regulator conducting the RCRA closure for the OB/OD area at Camp Navajo, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). A post-closure permit is required to properly manage any sites where hazardous waste will remain in place upon closure.
