Description
Sandia National Laboratories has technologies that have the potential to produce ultra-high temperature composites for use on surfaces exposed to extreme temperatures. Sandia is conducting ongoing research and development in the production of metal diboride fibers for use in composites. This research will produce metal diboride fibers not available by any other means; and these metal diboride fibers can be incorporated into a high temperature ceramic matrix for various applications. Sandia's capabilities include chemical synthesis and analysis, ceramic processing and testing, and high temperature property evaluation. These capabilities integrate the entire ultra-high temperature composite spectrum from tailoring the pre-ceramic chemistry to the production of test articles. Sandia's seeks to partner with a company or companies interested in opportunities leading to thermally and mechanically robust composites. Partnerships may take the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA), or Work for Others (WFO) agreements. Interested companies are preferred but not required to have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: •Ultra high temperature composites, including: oImproved thermal properties oImproved strength under ultra-high temperature conditions. oImproved electrical properties under ultra-high temperature conditions. oUltra-high temperature composite design and applications. Potential partners must have a significant interest in developing this technology since the CRADA or WFO is expected to include funds-in to Sandia from the partner. CRADAs and WFOs provide the potential for significant competitive advantages for our partners, including up to exclusive licenses to Sandia technologies. To express interest and to obtain information, please contact Ted Borek via email at ttborek@sandia.gov. Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
