- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI), FOR A LASER WIRE MARKING MACHINE THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) ONLY. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION FOR PROPOSALS AND NO CONTRACT WILL BE AWARDED FROM THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI). NO REIMBURSEMENT WILL BE MADE FOR ANY COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PROVIDING INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION, SOURCES ARE ADVISED THAT PARTICIPATION IN PROVIDING INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO THIS RFI IS STRICTLY VOLUNTARY AND MAY NOT ENSURE PARTICIPATION IN FUTURE SOLICITATIONS OR AWARDS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS RFI IS TO NOTIFY INDUSTRY OF THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE'S (USAF) INTENT FOR A FUTURE CONTRACT ACTION AND TO CONDUCT RESEARCH INTO POTENTIALLY QUALIFIED SOURCES AND THEIR SIZE CLASSIFICATIONS. BOTH LARGE AND SMALL BUSINESSES ARE ENCOURAGED TO RESPOND. A SOLICITATION DOES NOT EXIST AT THIS TIME. With this RFI, we request information regarding your company and your products/services. The same information will be gathered from different companies and will be used to evaluate what suppliers can provide. Further, the USAF is not at this time seeking proposals and will not accept unsolicited proposals. All costs associated with responding to this RFI will be solely at the interested party's expense. Not responding to this RFI does not preclude participation in any future RFP, if any is issued. If a solicitation is released, it will be synopsized on the Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps, FBO) website. It is the responsibility of the potential offerors to monitor these sites for additional information pertaining to this requirement. REQUIREMENT: The 412th Test Engineering Group/Instrumentation Division (TENG/ENI), Edwards Air Force Base, CA is seeking potential sources capable of providing a Laser Wire Marking Machine in support of the Joint Airborne Instrumentation & Integration (JAII) and Improvement and Modernization (I&M) programs. We are seeking information on how an interested contractor could provide our requirement. The following are the generic specifications of the machine we are looking for. NOTE: This RFI is subject to change. Laser wire marking machine specification requirements; • Laser: o Ultraviolet laser type • Print Specification: o Full alphanumeric character set A-Z (upper case) 0-9 plus blank space. Special characters such as /\()<>$%+- o Horizontal and vertical mark spacing: 1 in. to 39 in. o Conforms to SAE ARP5607 print legibility o At least 4 font sizes o Up to 100 characters or more per identification o Programmable mark spacing from 1" (25mm) to 4"(1000mm) in 1mm increments o "Source" and "Destination" marking at wire ends for directional routing • Wire Specifications: o Wire diameter: from 6 AWG to 26 AWG o Wire type: Teflon (PTFE), Tefzel (ETFE, XLETFE), Teflon wrapped, Polymide / Kapton wires o Cable Length Marking: 6 in. min to 10,000 in. max o Cut to length o 12" Coiling pan or larger o Production capabilities up to 10,000 ft per 8-hr shift • Control systems: o Standard PC controlled system o Menu driven control software o Software updates through USB or optical drive (this will be a standalone system) • Environmental conditions: o 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit o 20% to 80% humidity • Electrical conditions: o 230V 60HZ single phase and/or any necessary electrical adaptors • Warranty and support: o 1 year on-site warranty for parts and labor o 10 year support for all equipment Background: Program: JAII and I&M. • Delivery Period - 90 days after receipt of order • Limitations - None • Security Requirements - PC Controller must be a standalone system Industry Discussions: USAF representatives may or may not choose to meet with potential offerors. Such discussions would only be intended to get further clarification of potential capability to meet the requirements, especially any development and certification risks. Verbal questions will not be accepted. Summary This RFI is to identify sources that can provide a Wire Marking Machine. The information provided in the RFI is subject to change and is not binding on the Government. The USAF has not made a commitment to procure the equipment, and release of this RFI should not be construed as such a commitment or as authorization to incur costs for which reimbursement would be required or sought. All submissions become Government property and will not be returned.
