Description
The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is seeking a vendor who can manufacture Coal Mine Dust Personal Sampling device for determining the concentrations of respirable dust in coal mine atmospheres. These units must conform to the requirements listed in 30 CFR Part 74 Subpart B and Subpart D. Exposure to respirable coal mine dust may lead to the development of Coal Worker's Pneumoconiosis and/or silicosis. These diseases are commonly referred to as "Black Lung" disease. MSHA's regulations establish exposure level standards that are designed to reduce the incidence of disease if aminer's exposures are maintained at or below the established standard. Reducing the overexposures will ultimately lead to a reduction in the incidence of among the current Coal mine workforce. MSHA must takes samples in the mine using sampling units that conform the requirements listed in 30 CFR Part 74 are approved by both NIOSH and MSHA to determine if the concentration of respirable coal mine dust is being effectively controlled by the measures utilized by the mine operator. The regulations in Part 30 CFR Part 74 list the requirements for approval of coal mine dust sampling devices for determininig the concentrations of respirable dust in coal mine atmosphere, the procedures for applying for such approval, test procedures and labeling. The Part 74 approval covers the entire sampling system which must include the pump, battery, sampling head and filter assembly. An electronic copy of 30 CFR Part 74 can be found at: http://www.msha.gov/30cfr/74.0.htm Additional information about coal dust sampling requirements can be found in 30 CFR Parts 70, 71 and 90.
