- Description
- Intent to Sole Source - Per Department of Army (DA) Memorandum dated 19 Sep 2006, Subject: NETCOM Technical Authority (TA) Implementation Memorandum 2003-005c, Army Enterprise Desktop Standardization, Department of the Army is directing the implementation of a uniform desktop- computing environment for all organizations through the use of the consolidated buy contracts. This will cause a cost reduction for the Sierra Army Depot {SIAD) through the use of consolidated procurements of personal computer and server configurations. Dell standardization allows us to standardize on product lines and benefit from decreased hardware costs by providing consistent integration, installation and setup processes. We can maintain a single Operating System {OS) image for all hardware models, using multiple vendors would require maintaining multiple build images, or at least updating the build image to work with multiple models from multiple vendors. Having multi-platform certified technicians and parts inventory adds to the SIAD costs. If multiple platforms are used, it would be necessary to have vendor specific parts on hand for each of the approved vendors to facilitate quicker user repairs resulting in less time the user is non-functional. SIAD has been Dell server, desktops, and laptops specific since the direction for standardization sited above. Dell will also be able to supply the technical expertise to make our vSphere environment DIACAP compliantThe equipment and technical help to be purchased are Dell brand items as listed below. The purchases are to upgrade equipment and reconfigure software we currently use such as: Memory modules for Dell Servers, Dell Thin Client devices, Dell Precision workstations, Dell iDRAC6 Enterprise modules, and Technical Assistance to reconfigure Dell VMware environment.
