- Description
- 1.0 Introduction and Scope NASA/GSFC is seeking information for a mechanism to be included in an instrument for a possible Discovery proposal. Information on the Discovery Announcement of Opportunity (AO) can be found Science Office for Mission Assessments Discovery 2014 Announcement of Opportunity ( http://discovery.larc.nasa.gov/index.htm l ). The time frame for the solicitation is intended to be: Release of final AO......................................November 5, 2014 Preproposal conference...............................November 24, 2014 Proposals due..............................................February 16, 2015 (TBR) Selection for competitive Phase A studies...June 2015 (target) Concept study reports due...........................April 2016 (target) Down-selection.............................................September 2016 (target) Launch readiness date.................................NLT December 31, 2021 2.0 Technical Description Desired spaceflight system - GSFC is interested in information for a spaceflight-qualified scanning mirror system for a Visible/Near IR camera. Technical Specifications of the system are: Motor Scan rate: 80 microrad/s to 5 millirad/s over +/- 8 degrees Accuracy: 10 microrad Control: 14 microrad/s (worst case) Cold operation: ~170K environment Mirror 140x100 mm, elliptical, flat mirror Electronics 6U board, including block redundancy and isolated design LVDS link for command and telemetry Power: choice of +/- 15 V, +/- 12 V, 5 V, 3.3 V, 28 V unregulated Total Mass: < 2.5kg Total Peak Power: 4.5 W 3.0 Information Sought NASA/GSFC is interested in obtaining technical and previous space flight experience for the desired subsystem.A Rough Order Magnitude cost estimate is also desired.Ideally, respondents would demonstrate an understanding and experience in the design, fabrication, integration and testing of space flight scanning mirror mechanisms and provide a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimate and timeline for the scope of the design, fabrication, and testing of the scanning mirrors. 4.0 General Instructions for POD Response Responses shall include a short description of a scanning mirror mechanism, technical expertise and previous experience with spaceflight mechanisms, and a ROM cost estimate and timeline for providing such a mechanism. Responses will be treated as proprietary information and controlled as such by NASA/GSFC for the US Government. Respondents should deliver the requested information in a standard presentation format. Final presentation packages (electronic copy only, Portable Document Format {PDF} recommended) are requested by January 2, 2015. Presentations are to be delivered to Michael Adams ( Michael.L.Adams@nasa.gov ). Following review of responses received, NASA/GSFC will determine if a Partnership Opportunity Document (POD) will be released. Respondents will be notified of any decision to release a POD.
