- This is a sources sought announcement ONLY and is NOT a request for proposals or quotes. The VA Medical Center, Northport, NY, has a requirement for Ambulette services to transport eligible Veteran beneficiaries. Services shall be provided 24 hours, 7 days per week, 365 days per year for eligible beneficiaries of the Northport VA Medical Center in Northport, NY and its 5 Community-Based Clinics (CBOCs) located in Riverhead, Patchogue, Bay Shore, East Meadow, and Valley Stream. Required Ambulette services include the provision of appropriate wheelchair-capable transport vehicles, with drivers and attendants, to transport beneficiaries to and from appointments. Requirements also include provision of "through the door" assistance for beneficiaries, including help maneuvering stairs and other barriers. Services may be required throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island; occasional travel to upstate New York, as well as Pennsylvania and Connecticut, may also be required. Vehicles and personnel must meet federal Department of Transportation regulations to provide special needs transportation in New York, and contractors must meet all federal, state and city codes regarding operation of such services. All vehicles utilized in performance of this contract must comply with New York State Department of Transportation rules and regulations covering vehicles for hire to transport, and vehicles must display DOT inspection sticker. Transport requests are typically placed by the end of the prior business day; same day requests require 60 minute response time. Estimated service requirements are as follows: "Average number of trips (from origin to destination) per month: 1,500. "Of those 1,500 trips: Average 1,365 trips per month within Nassau and Suffolk County, and average 135 trips per month outside of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
