Description
SLAC seeks vendors that can provide a Solid State Amplifier (SSA) System for use in the Booster accelerator for the SPEAR3 electron storage ring. The Booster for the SPEAR3 storage ring at SLAC requires a radio-frequency (RF) amplifier that operates at an fRF of 358.54 MHz and can deliver a minimum peak output power of 45 kW. The booster cycles at a 10 Hz rate. The RF power cycles during this 100 ms time in a non-sinusoidal way. It is ramped from a low power level to its peak power during the cycle when the beam is in the Booster ring. After the beam is ejected from the ring the power is quickly decreased. The average power required during this ramp is slightly greater than 4 kW. SLAC requires the SSA to have an extremely high reliability and availability and would like it to operate without a system failure during each beam delivery "run" period of 44 weeks. SLAC will replace any failed individual components during our annual 8 week maintenance period. In order to have a safety margin on the required output power and to allow for operation in the case of failures of some components, it is seeking an SSA with a peak power of 64 kW. The SSA will output into a user-supplied circulator matched at 358.54 MHz which, in turn, will drive the user's high-Q RF cavity. The SSA should be very stable and have a bandwidth that enables it to act in a feedback loop that will stabilize the load voltage and power. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE. VENDORS INTERESTED IN BEING CONSIDERED AS A POTENTIAL SOURCE SHOULD IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS AN "INTERESTED PARTY" VIA THE FBO PORTAL. DO NOT CONTACT THE SUBCONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR.
