- Description
- Z- Cutaway Pass Trail Reconstruction on the Pintler Ranger District Project Location: The Cutaway segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail No. 9 is located within the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. There are several access trails. The closest access trail is described below: East Fork of Rock Creek. To get to this trailhead head west out of Anaconda towards Georgetown Lake on MT Hwy 1. Just prior to reaching Georgetown Lake turn left onto County Route 672. After approximately 4 miles, there is a junction. Veer left onto Forest Road 672 and continue past the junction with Forest Road 401. At the next two junctions follow signs to the Wilderness Boundary. Continue around the East Fork Reservoir and park at the end of Road 261. Hike up the East Fork Rock Creek Trail 8038 for six miles to the junction with Trail No. 9-The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Work ends at this location and begins three miles west from this junction at Cutaway Pass. The trailhead is accessible by passenger car. This high elevation project will most likely see snow in early October, and it may stick around until mid-July. Description of Work: The project includes the restoration of less than 3 miles of Continental Divide National Scenic Trail No. 9 within the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. The trail is extremely rugged and has poor access. Clearing and grubbing are included as their own line item for restoration clearing and grubbing, no clearing and grubbing is to occur along new trail, this project is entirely along an existing trail. Due to the large number of rocks to be removed from the trail tread and backslope it is advised that the contractor either have a certified blaster on their payroll, or be one themselves. See Section 205 of the specifications for requirements for blasting plans. The trail will not be closed to curious hikers along the trail. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail is one of high popularity during the summer months. Please be courteous to hikers and horsemen. 200 feet of turnpike is located near STA 50. These sections of turnpike shall be constructed by volunteers. Some of the volunteers shall be part of a Montana Wilderness "Vacation" other volunteers shall be part of the St. Louis, Missouri AmeriCorps team. Both groups may be working simultaneously while this contract is ongoing. Construction Magnitude: $25,000 to $100,000 Site Visit: No formal site visit is planned. Please contact Kendra Bull, 406-683-3962, for more information. Performance Period: July 15, 2015 to September 30, 2016.
