- RFI for Strategic XDR Payload The Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), Military Satellite Communications Systems (MILSATCOM) Directorate, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is evaluating alternatives for next-generation protected satellite communications (SATCOM) systems. The intent of this RFI is to seek industry feedback on capabilities and approaches for an Extended Data Rate (XDR) waveform communications payload to support future protected strategic SATCOM needs for 2025 and beyond. Specifically, information is sought on existing and/or near-term technical capabilities and relevant emerging or future technologies for a survivable, nuclear hardened, enduring, XDR waveform communications payload as well as recommended acquisition strategies that reduce risk, cost, complexity, and/or schedule.
