- Magnitude of Construction Project: Between $5 Million and $10 Million. Tentative dates for: Issuing invitations 12 April 2015 Opening bids 12 May 2015 Completing contract performance 1 July 2017 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, has a project that involves the installation of new dam lift gates at Montgomery Locks and Dam, Ohio River, PA. The contract has been divided into a base contract, installation of Lift Gates 6 and 7, and one awardable option, installation of Lift Gate 5. The major features of the requirements are identified below: The Dam Gate Installation Contract base contract, Gates Nos. 6 and 7, consists of removal of existing dam Lift Gates 7 and 6 and associated components, Pier 6, Pier 7, and Pier 8 machinery housing modifications, Pier 6, Pier 7, and Pier 8 track and sill modifications and miscellaneous pier concrete repair, installation of new Government-Furnished dam Lift Gates 6 and 7 and associated lift chains, and repair and relubrication of the gate lifting equipment. The Dam Gate Installation Contract Awardable Option 1, Gate No. 5, consists of removal of existing dam Lift Gate 5 and associated components, Pier 5 and Pier 6 machinery housing modifications, Pier 5 and Pier 6 track and sill modifications and miscellaneous pier concrete repair, installation of new Government-Furnished dam Lift Gate 5 and associated lift chains, and repair and relubrication of the gate lifting equipment. Awardable Option 2, Replace Drive Sprockets, Gate No. 7; Awardable Option 3, Replace Drive Sprockets, Gate No. 6; and Awardable Option 4, Replace Drive Sprockets, Gate No. 5 consist of removal of the existing drive sprockets, if determined necessary by Government inspection, and installation of new Government-furnished drive sprockets. Awardable Option 5, Repair Damaged Metallizing and Paint, Existing Gate No. 8 consists of removal of existing coatings on a portion of the downstream lower chord, surface preparation, metallizing, painting, and collection and disposal of debris. The work is to be performed using the existing bulkheads at the project site. Installation of the new Lift Gates involves heavy lifting of the main gate leaf, end trucks, and associated components from a floating plant. Disposal of lift gates and concrete rubble will be required. Ferrous and other construction waste material will be disposed at a commercially permitted facility licensed to accept the waste or recycled if applicable. Construction work will occur in close proximity to waterway traffic and operating lock and dam gates. The existing lock chambers are currently operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
