Description
This Request for Information (RFI) is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. SUMMARY: NASA Headquarters Office of Chief Technologist is seeking input through this RFI on the draft 2015 NASA Technology Roadmaps. Specifically, for technology candidates in the roadmaps: Is the correct state of the art identified? Is there interest in the use of the technology for commercial space applications or other government agency space applications? Is there interest in the use of the technology for non-space applications? Is there interest in partnering (co-funding) a specific technology development activity with NASA? The information collected through the RFI will contribute to three activities.First, using the input received via this RFI, NASA intends to confirm or update the state of the art content documented in the draft 2015 NASA Technology Roadmaps. This will enable NASA to verify that potential future technology development efforts will extend capability to new levels. Second, NASAs intent is to understand the potential uses that the broader community will make of NASA-developed technologies. The roadmaps are a foundational element of NASAs Strategic Technology Investment Plan (STIP). The STIP lays out the strategy and priorities for developing technologies that are essential to the pursuit of NASAs missions and the achievement of national goals. As a part of this strategy, NASA looks for opportunities to develop needed technologies that also energize the domestic space enterprise, support other government agencies, and have the greatest potential to extend benefits to the nation Third, input received from the RFI will be used to identify potential partnership opportunities.Fostering partnerships can leverage funding, facilities, and/or expertise both within and outside the Agency to address technology barriers and provide capabilities. These cost-shared, joint-development partnerships can bring together new sources of information to address NASAs technology needs, the needs of the partner, and provide benefits to the nation. NASA expects this RFI to enable comment on the draft 2015 NASA Technology Roadmaps in a broad spectrum of areas. Reviewers are requested to describe partnership opportunities and needs, and to identify NASA technology development activities that will promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and development of new businesses. The RFI in its entirety is attached herein and includes instructions for submitting responses. Draft 2015 NASA Technology Roadmaps can be viewed at the website provided within the attached RFI, beginning on May 11, 2015. Only responses submitted per the instructions in the RFI will be considered. No solicitation exists; therefore, please do not request a copy of the solicitation. This RFI is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited.
